I've had some really great workouts this week. I've really been pushing myself lately workout and food wise. Tougher, faster paced work outs, more produce, healthier recipes, exc... It's a lot of work keeping up a lifestyle like that. Although I've been dedicated to my gym for 4 years now, and have always had a particularly healthier diet then usual, it's still tough sometimes. I need to stop thinking "How am I going to keep this up for weeks? Years?? MY LIFE???" and start thinking about what I can do TODAY to make a difference for my body and my health. Take it one day at a time. Keeping that mindset really does help! Sometimes thinking about the bigger picture is overwhelming, thinking about the smaller picture makes skipping the candy bar for just 1 day seem so much easier than thinking "I need to skip this candy bar for the rest of my life" (because let's be real, that's not happening hehe).
How I made a difference in my 'Today':
-Instead of going out to the diner for pancakes or my favorite cream chipped beef over biscuits, I had a bowl of cereal and a cup of tea. (umm... the diner was closed so that was more fate than will power, but still!)
-I used the time I would have been at the diner to hit the gym and sweat a bit!
-I treated myself to some of my favorite produce while grocery shopping (a pummelo and a pomegranate)
-Played around with a new recipe! I made skinny broccoli cheddar soup (and skipped the side of bread)
-I started putting slices of lemon and apple in my water to make drinking water more fun
-I'm opting for a cup of sleepy time tea instead of a candy bar for my bed time treat (which is really hard as my husband sits next to me noshing away at all the goodies in his Christmas stocking).
However, sweets are just a temporary taste on your tongue that last a few seconds and then go away. It's actually very unsatisfying when you think about it. Fun for the moment but there's really no lasting benefits. Kinda my epiphany for the day.

Despite the pretzel bites with cheese we got at the movies tonight (no regrets), I feel really great about my day! I'm looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow, hitting the gym, and spending the day with my best friend before she heads off to college. How are you going to make a difference in your Tomorrow?

*I used chicken instead of beef, quinoa instead of rice, and replaced the salsa with diced tomatoes.
